FLABBERGASTING FOLKLORE ABOUT WACONIA
I was all ready to tell you about how Al Capone had his hideout right here in Waconia, Minnesota, a piece of folklore heard on occassion around here. After doing some digging at the Carver County Historical Society, I uncovered the disappointing fact: there is no physical evidence that Al Capone ever came to Waconia. However, Al Capone was pretty good at hiding out so maybe he was here?
Fact: Al Capone had many hideouts in St. Paul, Minnesota.
What does Waconia mean?
Well, it is a Native American word for "Clear Lake".
